Death by a thousand putts

Played golf today for the first time in a couple of months, and it showed. Rob and I headed to Waterford Valley Golf Course in Rowville. Both started off well, I hit the first two greens in regulation but ominously 3 putted both after putting the approaches a LONG way from the pin. This trend [...]

Crashed and Burnt

Some days just aren’t meant for golf (sad but true!). Today was one of those days. Second round of the Herald Sun Matchplay, paired against Cameron a tennis teacher from Heidelberg Golf Club. With no practice since the last round, the swing felt closer to an axe swinging into wood than the smooth arc of [...]

Matchplay win

Played the first round of the Herald Sun Golf Challenge at the Growling Frog this morning against Rod from Heidelberg. Rod was complaining that he hadnt played for ages but proceeded to blitz early and won the first 3 holes. This was looking like a thrashing. Managed to stem the bleeding and then as Rod’s [...]

Victoria Golf Club

Played a corporate golf day on Friday at Victoria Golf Club. Victoria is nestled in with Royal Melbourne, and presents a tough test of golf with gum tree lined fairways and thick, at time impenatrable rough to capture the wayward shot. Bunkers are numerous and cavernous. Playing ambrose, our team played well but bogeyed a [...]

Have just joined the Growling Frog Golf Club. Formed last year, the club plays out of the Growling Frog golf course running regular competitions on Saturdays and midweeks. Will also be able to transfer my handicap from the Gold Coast Country Club. The third hole, 482 metre par 5

Played yesterday at the Growling Frog, a 6185 metre Graham Marsh design. The course is links style, set amongst large river gums with a lot of sand and the occasional ‘hidden’ lake/pond. Excellent fairways and greens, but the rough is literally dry clay and clumps of dry grass. Following on from a big night the [...]

Long Island

Yesterday was invited by Ben and Cam (his bro in law) to play at Long Island Country Club near Frankston. A traditional sandbelt layout (6205m Par 72) with undulating fairways, quick and true greens, big contoured ball sucking bunkers and deep tea-tree rough. We played as a team of two in a bestball stableford comp [...]

Moonah Links

Had the unique opportunity to play in the 2005 Australian Open Pro-Am at Moonah Links. Teed off with Scottish pro, Jack Doherty on the 6th hole (tough Par 4). Slightly nervy sliced opening tee-shot was followed by some pretty good golf from our team. I parred 5 holes all up with most of the game [...]

Bright Golf

As part of a work Boys Weekend, played a round of golf with Ben (aka Torana) at Bright Country Golf Course. I dont use the “Hidden Gem” tag lightly, however this country course was a challenging layout, over 6000m, well bunkered and very good condition. Rate it highly. Ben was on fire early, and was [...]
