Australian Open Golf – Appleby v Scott
December 5th, 2009 by Doogs
The Australian Open has finally got itself back on track after Fridays postponement for 5 hours threatened to throw the Open into Chaos, reminding of the Open at Victoria not long ago. Strong winds and quick greens made the course virtually unplayable (though Im sure the members at NSW were sniggering in their beers having played worse conditions than that!).
Appleby had arguably played two of the best rounds seen in Australia, he copped the worst of the weather in the first round, plus was blown off the course on Friday. Appleby was 10 shots better than anyone else in his half of the draw, remarkable golf. He carded to 66’s to lead the field. However Adam Scott was lurking just off the pace, his swing and composure that has been unseen for virtually all of 2009 is back.
Appleby and Scott went head to head in the third round with Scott taking the honours adding a 67 to take the lead by himself. Appleby is two shots back, and fought back from a shaky start to the third round. O’Hern and Nitties are 5 to 6 shots back respectively, and would need to shoot a low score plus hope the two leaders fall over. Scott Hend was the other early leader, he had a train wreck of a start and finished well down the leaderboard with an 80.
It promises to be a great final round, Appleby has won the Australian Open back in 2001, Scott would love a victory on home soil. As Scott was quoted “We’ve both had shitty years”, so one of them can at least end the year with their national championship.

Appleby and Scott will fight it out in the final round of the Australian Open
