Tiger v Kingston Heath
November 11th, 2009 by Doogs
Crowds flocked to Kingston Heath for a second day and the tournament hasnt even started yet! Surely there are crowd records being set left right and centre! I was lucky enough to play in the 2005 Australian Open Pro-am at Moonah Links. A fantastic experience, but there were no helicopters, media was scarce and there wasnt a spectator in sight! Of course, there was no Tiger Woods either.
All the fun and games are over now, Tiger is knocking the dew off the green early tommorow morning. Pin placement will be less favourable, greens will be slicker having been baked with some hot weather in Melbourne. I tossed up the inconceivable earlier in the week asking whether Tiger could miss the cut. He shot 5 under on the front nine today, so thats highly unlikely. But if the wind picks up on the weekend and the greens firm up, the Aussies will be tough to beat on a hometrack. I dont think Tiger will win, but its fantastic having him playing one of Melbourne and worlds greatest courses.
Of course, Channel Nine has been going on about having the TV rights to the Masters, but they wont be showing Tigers first round live. No, instead its the Today Show. Even Tigermania isnt big enough to push Dicky Wilkins off the air, Shame that.
