Will Tiger Woods make the cut in the Australian Masters?
November 7th, 2009 by Doogs
Next week Tiger Woods arrived in Australia for the first time in over a decade to play the Australian Masters. Bringing Tiger to Melboune is a massive coup for the tournament organisers and a huge boost for golf in Melbourne and Australia. Sydney battled Melbourne to win the Tiger prize, Sydney ended up with Brian Eno instead, Melbourne paid $3m for Tiger, who also wanted to return to the Sandbelt and Kingston Heath. Ticket sales have been unprecedented with tickets sold out for the tournament and solid sales for the practice and pro-ams! Who goes to watch a execs on 27 hack their way around the pro-am with a frustrated pro!
Tiger is currently playing the HSBC Championship in Shanghai, he is one off the lead held by ‘Lefty’ Mickelson and will most likely finish ahead after 72. Tiger doesnt enter a tournament without wanting to win, the Masters isnt a holiday jolly, and its not that he really needs the money! So, what a stupid statement to even question whether Tiger could miss the cut. Much to the disappointment of the gallery, Tiger should keep the driver in the bag for most of the week. He has a habit to push the ball right when going after the driver, many of the US courses allow an escape from a pushed drive, but if he winds up in the tea-tree rough at Kingston Heath a few times, he may be in trouble.
Of course this is highly unlikely, the galleries around Tiger will be crazy and Tiger will benefit from a 10 person deep wall surrounding every hole to stop a wayward shot! Here’s to Tiger leading a recovery in Australian tournament golf, inticing other top PGA tour players down under. He will also be back in Melbourne with his mates in 2011 for the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.
