British Open Golf – First Round
July 17th, 2009 by Doogs

The 2009 British Open (or “The Open”) is being played this week on the classic Turnberry Links course. The Scottish Aisla layout is hosting the open for the fourth time. Previous winners are Tom Watson (1977), Greg Norman (1986) and Nick Price (1994). Tiger Woods is the clear favourite in betting, however the thick rough wont favour Woods.
Round One - Full Scorecard Miguel Angel Himenez -6 Made the most of the friendly conditions and leads after sinking a massive putt on the final hole, the Spanish “Angel” carded a faultless round and could take some beating
Tom Watson -5 The 59 year old Watson turned back time as Norman did last year with a 65, Watson is no stranger to the Open winning five of them (I originally thought he was Scottish!). Though his last win was 26 years ago!!!
John Senden & Matt Goggin -4 Top placed Aussies, Senden and Goggin both shot 66. Senden starting slow but firing a 31 to come home, Goggin carded 6 birdies but also dropped a couple.
Padraig Harrington -1 Padraig is looking for the three-peat, having won the past two Opens. A slow start, Padraig isnt in form and has admitted that the hat-trick is not looking promising.
John Daly -1 Now this is how to prepare for a round of golf – “http://twitpic.com/aiyu2 – studying the pins & greens — day 1“: http://twitter.com/PGA_JohnDaly
Tiger Woods +1 Some work to do for Tiger, of course you never write him off, but he is not fully ON, and his past Open wins have been on dry tracks with less rough than normal.
Geoff Ogilvy +5 Though Geoff may be one of the Aussies to watch, but all over the place finishing with a 75 to be 11 off the pace already
Ian Poulter +5 In his own words from Twitter – “sorry folks played absolutely shocking today never hit 1 shot that i was happy with, very strange. good job 2morrow is another day” = http://twitter.com/Ianjamespoulter
Greg Norman +7 Finished with two birdies to make the scorecard look a bit better, but no heroics like last year, will struggle to make the cut
Sir Nick Faldo +8 I didnt know Nick was now Sir Nick! Wonder if Her Maj used a sword or a lob wedge to knight him?
