Birthday golf at the growling frog

Decided that I could not face work on my birthday and took an annual leave day to play golf! Teed off at the Growling Frog with Ben, who Id met last time, and is now down to a handy 4 handicap. We joined the Wednesday stableford comp and hit the 1st tee in a very poor excuse for rain, not even drizzle, maybe just driz. Shot 15 points going out, really average off the tee, not getting clean contact. So, not hitting fairways, the penalty for which is a very poor, clumpy dry lie in the rough. The short game is still crap. Finally got a par on 7th after sinking a LONG putt off the green. Then cranked a great 9 iron into 8th, missed birdie. Died in the bunker on 9.
Back nine better, still not a lot off the tee, but a slightly better short game and had 19 points out for a 34 total. Generally ok. Ben started poorly but still finished with 37 pts off 4, so still had his game on.
