Ogilvy wins Australian PGA at Hyatt Coolum
December 7th, 2008 by Doogs
Geoff Ogilvy has been a gun on the PGA Tour over recent years, with a number of wins including the US Open. But he had never won on home soil. He changed that with a win in the Australian PGA this weekend at Hyatt Coolum.

Going toe to toe with Mathew Goggin on the final day, it was a two horse race on the backnine until Goggin drove into the water on the 15th. Ogilvy only had to maintain his game from then on, and finished with a comfortable two shot win. Nice one Geoff.
Though if you had been watching the national broadcast by Channel 10 on TV, you would have missed Ogilvy sinking the winning putt. Yep, quality direction saw the camera switch to Goggins sad face having holed out for a bogey, dreams shattered. Next shot was Ogilvy shaking hands with Goggin, having sunk his short putt to win. Nice one Channel 10, how could you miss the winning moment! At least we were able to see the jubilation on Crawfords face as Hawthorn won the Grand FInal instead of a shot of a Geelong player crying……GO HAWKS. One of the “big” drawcards had been John Daly, who failed to make the cut for the second week in a row. He was able to bring in the crowds and got plenty of publicity, so although he is well past his use-by date, he would have succeeded in paying off his appearance fee. Though cant help but feel sorry for the young tour wannabee who missed out on a spot because of Long John.
