Hitting it fine at Eynesbury

Looking down the final hole at Eynesbury

Played a new Melbourne layout yesterday with Rob.  Eynesbury Golf Course is tucked away near Melton in Melbournes West, and has been up a running for a year or so.  The Graham Marsh designed course is a cracker, and will definitely be back to play again.  Much of the surrounding landscape and features have been incorporated into the design, from small creeks and marshes, to drystone walls, farm sheds and a very impressive homestead.  The course is pure Graham Marsh, not overly tight fairways, but need to think about club selection off the tee, great little par 3′s, and a course guide is needed for a number of holes.

Rob and I teed off in perfect conditions, no wind and the sun starting to warm things up.  After I’d parred the first and won the first hole, I hacked the second and Rob played well, even again.   Im still trying to work out what happened next, Robs games started to crumble (Here it is in his words, though he did have something else on his mind, given he will be a Dad soon!)  and I rattled off 6 pars in a row!   The driver was not exactly firing but was getting it out there, but the irons were working magically, the short game holding up and putts were getting close.  Missed a makeable putt for a par on the 9th that would have given me a 39!  But will take the 40!

The swing held together over the backnine, Rob was trying to get his game back on.  Swing got tired towards the end of the round, but still knocked in for an 84, one of the best rounds of recent memory!

Mike, a superb round, you owned that course, especially as it was site unseen. The run of pars was only cut short by the smallest of margins. I want to see you play like that again, only this time I’ll stop picking my ball up and throwing my putter into the creek. I promise.
