Buddy excellent & a lesson to relax

Today had another lesson with Wayne Rogers at Growling Frog. My swing over winter has collapsed, due to lack of game time and crapness. Wayne looked at my swing and quickly noted that I was too tense and needed to relax the arms and shoulders.

Swing thoughts:

- relax arms
- focus on clipping ball off the grass
- focus on left wrist just leading club through ball
- drill – swing with ball basket bw arms
- thought – left arm in top of backswing does not need to be tight. Empty jumper arm analogy

I’m curious, what is the ‘jumper arm’ analogy?

The ‘jumper arm’ analogy is trying to explain the amount of tension in the left arm at the top of the backswing. Whilst it may look as though the arm muscles are tensed, they are of course meant to be relaxed, as though its an empty jumper arm joining the hands to the left shoulder.

Thanks, seems like a cool analogy. I believe the opposite of that is ‘tuck shop arms’.

  4. [...] Finished work early today to meet Nige and Rob on the tee at Yarra Bend for a late round. Weather was sensational as we teed off. Rob and I were playing the First Test of the Ashes series (more on that later), so pressure was on from the first hole. Nige was on fire early, with the short game working a treat, Rob struggled off the tee with some wild drives, whilst I was hitting the ball well, putting well, but the short game was particularly crap! Finished with 35 pts, and pretty happy overall with the game, especially when I had relaxed the arms, something that has been an ongoing problem [...]
