The drive from Melbourne to Perth is about 3,500 kms, give or take a kangaroo or two. Much of the route is taken up by the Nullarbor Plain, seemingly endless road laid out across outback Australia with a lone roadhouse every few hundred kms to ease the driving monotony (well and some pretty amazing landscapes). It must have been a frustrated golfer travelling this road once who came up with this novel concept, Nullarbor Links – the worlds longest golf course. A series of eighteen holes spread from Kalgoorlie in the West to Ceduna in the East, about 1,300 kilometres long!

Each participating town or road house hosts a hole, you play that hole then drive to the next stop and so on. Makes it hard to maintain form with a couple of hundred km’s between holes, but a nice way to relieve the monotony of a long road trip, and a novel tourism attraction.
