Another fine round at the Growling Frog
November 18th, 2007 by Doogs
Another early start, on Saturday as Steve and I hit the Growling Frog for our second round. Similar conditions to last Saturday with a Northerly wind at our backs on the 1st tee. Whilst waiting, Wayne (The local Pro) presented me with an Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie putter, won in last weeks Callaway comp for finishing second, not bad!
Steve and I joined forces to team up in a 4BBB Stableford comp. My swing maintained its form, and I managed to par the first 3 holes hitting them all in regulation, so far so good for the new putter! Steves form was starting to return, though the lead in the King Challenge was looking out of reach short of an old fashioned collapse! As a team we were doing well, though tended to par the same holes! I finished with 4 pars and 5 bogeys, very consistent!
Started the backnine with a par, then hit the par 5 11th in two (driver, 5 iron thanks to a tailwind) and 2 putted for birdie, Steve knocked an excellent bunker approach close and also birdied! The hit the 12th long and 3 putted. A par on 14th and I was looking at a very low score, but that came undone on 15! Another par on 17th (7 pars and a birdie for the round), and finished with 41 points or an 85! Steve and I combined for a very competitive 45 points.
The King Challenge bragging rights stay in Melbourne until next time with a comprehensive victory for Hauser over DaCosta by 15 points, but the next Challenge is never too far away.
