Golf with Koreans at the Heritage
October 25th, 2007 by Doogs
Played for the first time in ages at a golf day to celebrate Korean Airways flying into Melbourne. Grouped with Mr Hwang, Mr Chung and Mr Kim, all MAD keen golfers from Korea, luckily able to speak basic English as my Korean is limited to “kimchi”.

We played the Henley course at the Heritage in the Yarra Valley. The course is the newer addition to the Heritage, adding to the more established St John course designed by Nicklaus. After a less than impressive opening hole thanks to getting caught in the deep rough, my redeveloping swing started to work hitting fairways and a some greens in regulation. The putter however failed miserably. I was stuck on the ‘double-bogey’ train until I put together 5 pars in 6 holes to prevent too much damage. The 6 iron to the 12th green, a par 3, was one out of the bottle, easy swing, on plane, clean hit, nice draw, sweet!
The Koreans were enjoying there golf, much novelty whenever a 6 was scored, “I like six”. And generally just happy to be on the course) and probably away from their wives!!!) Average club membership in Korea is $70,000US, so they werent club members, and I would say they play a lot of golf at driving ranges.
So, pretty happy with the game. Swing plane looking better, leading to more consistency. Short game, needs work!
