Sam defeated in minigolf rematch
March 4th, 2007 by Doogs
After suffering a dramatic final hole loss at Latrobe Minigolf last year to Sam (now aged 5!), I was keen to even the ledger. We trekked off to Wetlands Minigolf in Waverley, a 36 hole indoor/outdoor complex. We played the Open Course, so named because its ‘in the open’!. The layout is a tough links style par 47, a links style minigolf = sans windmills etc!
Dad opened up an early lead, as Sam struggled with the pace of the synthetic grass, the 5th proved his undoing on the tricky multilevel green. After 9 holes Dad was 2 shots ahead. Sam hit back early on the back nine, nailing a long putt to go level after 11. But Dad rallied and raced to a 4 shot lead after 13 holes, the title looked his. Sam had other ideas, and through a combination of good putting and a liberal interpretation of the rules, drew level by the final hole.
The 18th is a pretty straightforward finishing hole, par 2 with a novelty ‘win a free game device’ to conclude the round. Sam had the honour and left his first shot short, tapping in for a 3, no free game! Dad lagged the putt to the edge of the hole and tapped in for a 2, taking the game by one shot. A round of hot chips to celebrate! Final scores 57 to 58 – Par 47.
Sam holes out for par on the tricky 7th hole

Loved the story of the rematch, you just squeeked it out by one shot. I haven’t tried mini-putt with my oldest(6) daughter yet but I will for sure after your post.
