O’Hern wins in Coolum….just
December 10th, 2006 by Doogs
Nick O’Hern is ranked 35th in the World Golf Rankings, (To put that in perspective, Allenby is ranked 41st). So it comes as a complete surprise that he has not won a tournament since 1999. He is always competitive but hasnt been able to close the deal. Maybe it has something to do with standing on the wrong side of the ball and putting with a pole vault (just kidding Nick!)

At Hyatt Coolum today, O’Hern finally grabbed that next win in the Australian PGA but not before trying to throw it away. I remember playing Coolum a couple of times BK (before kids) with Steve, it was tough, with plenty of bunkers and worse, swamps and lakes everywhere. I think we struggled to break 100. O’Hern finished tied on 21 under with Lonard, they obviously didnt find it so tough!
O’Hern should have won after 72 holes, missing a sitter on the 18th hole to open the door for Lonard. The played the 18th four more times in sudden death. It took a holed bunker shot from the greenside trap to give O’Hern the win, otherwise they may have been there all night.
