Waterford Valley Golf Course opened earlier this year and is a solid addition to Melbourne’s public access courses. The two nines loop out and back around a number of lakes and wetlands, so whatever direction the wind is blowing you will be playing with it and against it! The course is dotted with over 60 bunkers for good measure. Santa ana fairways are fantastic and the greens are massive.

Some of the better holes include:

Waterfordvalley-8th
8th Hole – Tough into the wind!
A long par 5 on a normal day, but played into the wind this is a tough one. A good tee shot is need to carry the creek, then bunkers and creeks on either side of the hole need to be avoided. Made a complete mess of this one!
Waterfordvalley-10th
10th Hole – Its all about the second shot
After a well earned drink at the clubhouse (No water fountains on the course!), the 10th is a tough start to the back nine, aim for the right side of the fairway to open up the approach to an elevated green well protected.
Waterford Valley 13th
13th Hole – Long Par 3 with water carry
All the par 3’s on the course are tough, the 13th from the back pegs requires a long iron across the lake.
Waterford Valley 18th
18th Hole – Tough second shot to an island green
A strong finishing hole, tee shot needs to be right to avoid water and the large fairway trap on the left. Approach needs accuracy to an island green well bunkered. Played my shot of the round from the fairway bunker with a 6 iron, to within 20 ft of the pin.

Images thanks to Google Maps,

Really enjoyed the course, we played it from the back markers so, it was over 6,400 metres! Diverse range of holes, plenty of bail out areas or options for the gamble. Excellent condition and a better track than Kingston Links down the road.
