Launceston Country Club – Tassie Golf
September 7th, 2006 by Doogs
Recently jetted down to Launceston (Tasmania) for a weekend with mate Scott. Primary reason for this boys weekend was to watch our respective football teams, Hawthorn and Kangaroos, duke it out in a Round 21 clash between 14th and 13th place!!
Decided to make a long weekend of it and played the Country Club Golf Course, just out of Launceston on the Friday.

Weather was superb as we teed off, a daunting water carry over a large lake greets the first shot of the day! We both survived. The front nine is picturesque and well laid out, greens were in good condition but the fairways and rough were, well rough. Scott had the ‘Coke-can’ driver going well early, my irons were working a treat but short game not good. I was spotting Scott a shot a hole, and was just up at the turn.

The back-nine is a bit of an afterthought, seemingly tacked on through the back blocks of a housing estate, the holes meander off into the distance. Not as picturesque as the front nine, the golf suffered accordingly with Mike hanging on to win the matchplay challenge on the 16th.
To cap off a fine weekend, the Hawks beat the Kangaroos the following day!
