Can an Aussie win the Masters?
April 7th, 2006 by Doogs
The Masters is on again. The course has been ‘Tiger proofed’, the divots painted green and the Magnolias primed to bloom. The big question once again arises, can an Australian win the Masters?
Norman came close so many times, the Monday morning heartache of watching Larry Mize chip-in during the 1987 playoff was devastating, but blowing the 6 shot lead in 1996 was cruel and painful, its been rated as one of the biggest chokes of all time.

The first round always has a couple of Aussies in contention, and this year is no exception with Ogilvy, Appleby, O’Hern, Pampling and Scott all in sight. The course takes no prisoners on the ice rink greens and claustophobic fairways cut into pine trees. Is this the year, will the monkey join the Socceroos monkey in retirement? Stay tuned.
