Mike played the round of his life in the second round of the King Challenge Melbourne 2006 to take the Purple Jacket in convincing fashion (and what a convincing fashion the purple jacket is!). After a fairly close first round at the Links at St Andrews Beach, Mike held a small lead over Steve and Andrew with rookie Scott in last place.

Beers and pizza made the 6am start on the Saturday a tough test, but all four players were keen to finish on top of the leader board. Mike was hitting drives and approach shots on target, something rarely seen consistently, and the putts were going in the hole. 81 shots later, and 44 pts he had the King Challenge won, Scott played the Dunes well to jump up the leader board to second place, Andrew in third and Steve finished in final spot (lucky no spoon)
